It’s time to experiment. Adding accessories to your hair can give you a unique and oh so adorable look. Just choosing cool hair accessories can bring hours of fun and there are a whole host of stylish pieces around. An endless treasure trove of beautiful barrettes, embellished bobby pins, hair jewellery, ribbons, headscarves and even brooches. Accessories can create a refreshing feel that’s super chic. Find the right individual piece, and you’ll have a look that’s totally yours.

It’s on trend to use hair accessories right now. The catwalks are packed with models sporting glittering hair jewellery, beautiful barrettes and multiple clips and bobby pins. And the celebs are rocking the look all over the red carpet, from Rita Ora’s elaborate hair jewellery to Em Rata’s simply tied braids. Ready to join them?

When wearing, keep it simple and it will just add to the overall beauty of your hair. With the right accessory, you can create a host of heavenly hairstyles. If you’re wondering just how to style your accessories read on.

Clip it real good

Barely a look went by for AW18 without a different designer sending their models down the catwalk with a clip, a barrette or multiple grips positioned artfully in the hair. Adding a clip or a barrette can create an incredibly pretty look. When you’re inserting a grip, put the wavy side down, against your scalp. The ridges grip your hair better, which helps prevent the pin from sliding out. For a sleek and simple look, create a centre parting and secure a clip just above each ear. You can try multiple grips to add edge. There are so many ways to wear a barrette. For a boho look, try taking a one-inch section of hair and twist it to the back of the head. Repeat on the other side and secure both twists together with the barrette.

If you’re growing out a fringe, it can be a great time to experiment with a clip. You can sweep a fringe to one side and hold it into place with a simple bobby pin or an ornate clip to add some character. Adam says, “Spray grips with Reassuringly Firm Session Hold Hairspray before you use them to ensure they have more hold and don’t slip.”

Minimal is more

For a super stylish look, keep accessories minimal. Adam says, “In terms of future trends, I think minimalistic accessories like beautiful fine leather headbands will be seen everywhere. Not over accessorising is the key – think clean. Less is more.” A plain hairband is super simple to use. It’s the perfect accessory for straight, sleek hair. Just add Quite Frankly Flawless Finishing Polish over the surface of your hair to tame away any flyaways, and add your chosen hairband. You can also try adding a hairband to other hairstyles like a sleek bun.

One of a kind

For a unique look try customising your own accessories. Take a peek in a haberdashery store or website, and you may find a complete one-off. A simple twist, knot or ponytail is one of the best ways to showcase any accessory. Always use hair elastics and grips to place your style first. Then use your accessory as a fabulous finishing touch on top. Our founder Adam loves using geisha pins and haberdashery to add a modern finish to a low-slung bun.

Here’s how:

1. Firstly, create a braid in the hair

2. Twist the braid around itself to form a circle

3. Spray geisha pins and criss-cross them over, adding them to the hair. This will create a low-slung bun.

4. To finish, pop your chosen piece in the hair. Heavenly.

For a twist on the everyday ponytail, take a ribbon, wrap around the hair and tie in a pretty bow. Voila. Or you could try tying a stylish scarf around your ponytail instead. Cute. Adam also suggests trying other accessories like a favourite brooch in your hair. He says “Brooches in the hair can add a total new spin on the way that you wear your hair and add interest to your style. Simply slip a grip through a brooch to secure.”

Are you feeling inspired to try a new look? Accessories add the perfect finishing touch. It’s a look that can take you from day to night. Give it a go and get even more gorgeous.
