Hey Big Splendour!

If you love having hair that’s full of bounce, body, and volume, you’re definitely in the right place. Not only do we have a whole host of volumising hair products specifically designed to add serious va va voom to your locks, but our very own Adam Reed has shared three of his go-to styles guaranteed to put a spring in your step, and a swish in your hair.

Straight to it style by Adam ReedStraight To It

'Straight hair?' we hear you ask? 'We thought this post was all about volume.' Well, when it comes to straight hair we hands-down prefer a natural, bouncy style above hair that’s poker-straight and sleek. Here are Adam’s steps for adding volume and movement to a straight style.

Step 1: Section your hair and spray each section with Percy & Reed Surprisingly Strong Extra Hold Hairspray before using your straighteners. Remember that super-hot styling appliances can cause damage to your hair’s cuticles (each hair’s outer protective covering) which weakens your hair. Adam always recommends using high quality straighteners like the GHD Platinum Styler, heated to 185°C or less. This is the optimal temperature for styling and will significantly reduce the risk of heat damage, so avoid the temptation to heat your appliances to the max.

Step 2: Straighten the rest of your hair, section by section, pressing the hair gently with your straighteners instead of clamping them down. That way you’ll still get a voluminous, silky finish and seal the cuticle without taking all the natural bounce out of your style.

Step 3: And what’s the key to creating volume at the roots? Back-combing of course! Before you stop reading we aren’t suggesting going back to the 80s here. By sectioning the hair and gently back-combing at the crown after straightening, you’ll get a lovely, bouncy lift in your straightened locks.

Nouveau wave by Adam ReedNouveau Wave

If you like a bit more oomph in your style, try this modern twist on a classic 70s look. We love Adam’s ‘Nouveau Wave’ – it’s a wonderful way to get bountifully bouncy hair that looks totally natural.

Step 1: Section your hair and spray each one with our Surprisingly Strong Extra Hold Hairspray before you create your waves. Gently wave your hair using a straightener – once again, Adam recommends the GHD Platinum Styler because it’s great for both straightening and curling, and delivers on styling without heat-damaging your hair.

Step 2: Work your way around your whole head, sectioning, spraying with hairspray, and gently waving each section using your styler or straighteners.

Step 3: When you’re done, grab a brush and tease out your waves to give your hair a more natural look that doesn’t appear ‘tonged’.

Step 4: And now for the final flourish! Give your hair a quick spritz of our Percy & Reed Big, Bold & Beautiful Dry Instant Volumising Spray right into the roots, and plum up for gorgeous, soft waves with  natural-looking volume and height.

Prom pom pony by Adam ReedProm Pom Pony

For a big bouncy ponytail that’s quick and easy, here are Adam’s three simple steps.

Step 1: Brush your hair back into a high pony, and secure with a hair band (for our top tips on getting the perfect, secure pony take a look at our Best Hairstyles for Playing Sports post)

Step 2: You guessed it, time to back-comb again! Back-combing your ponytail is the best way to create body and volume.

Step 3: And finally, add bouncy texture to your back-combed pony by spraying it all over with our  Big, Bold & Beautiful Dry Instant Volumising Spray
