We speak to architect and interior designer May Noradee about the motivation behind her blogging, how she creates the perfect party hairstyle and her top tips for keeping frizz (and faux pas) at bay.

What was the inspiration for starting your blog?

Happiness In May was my online diary. An online notebook where I record experiences, places, and anything that I find interesting, memorable, inspirational. Initially, it was a convenient way to keep in touch with my family (this was pre-Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook era). It turns out that many people also find the content interesting, so the blog became an online space where I could connect to like-minded people as well.

With party season coming up, how would you create the perfect party hairstyle?

For party hairstyle, I like to keep it simple and elegant. My hair is very long, naturally wavy and thick with lots of volume. So, half-up, half-down high ponytail, top bun with pretty hair piece, or natural blow dry are my usual party hair do. Recently, I am very into braids because my hair is waist length now. So sometimes, I like to do messy side plait.

Accessories or glitter?

Who is your celebrity hairstyle icon?

Kristen Stewart. I like her daring experiments and she always looks cool in both short and long hair.

Have you ever had any party hair faux pas? How did you fix it?

Yes. My hair becomes frizzy very easily after a few hours of blow drying. I usually keep a small tube of Percy & Reed Perfectly Wonder Balm in my handbag, so I can smooth out the frizz whenever necessary.

You have great hair. What’s your regime? Which P&R products do you rely upon most?

Percy and Reed Perfectly Perfecting Wonder Wash Shampoo & Conditioner. Also Percy & Reed Perfectly Wonder Balm to add shine and control frizz. Once a week, I mask my hair with coconut oil for deep conditioning.

What is your ultimate haircare tip?

For natural wave look, I like to sleep with my hair braided, then untie when I wake up. I fix the curls with hairspray to finish. It saves time in the morning because no styling required.

Which hair essentials do you always have in your handbag at a party?

Percy & Reed Perfectly Wonder Balm.
