Take beauty sleep to a whole new level.
We heard the crazier you look going to bed, the more beautiful when you wake. We’ve seen dressing gown ties, fluffy socks and even gym leggings being used to wrap around hair for effortless curls that cure overnight – the lengths we go to, right? Whilst they may look a little mad, the beauty of utilising such techniques allows for time saved the next morning - all you have to do is take them out and brush them through, but you also benefit from achieving the style you require without applying heat.
From soft waves to bouncy curls, regardless of the technique used, for the best results it's all in the prep. Discover our tips and tricks for waking up with gorgeous, styled hair.
As we always say, good hair starts in the shower. Using a good quality Shampoo and Conditioner that’s right for your hair type and texture is key - step one is to double cleanse with your favourite shampoo before gliding conditioner through mid-lengths and ends. We would recommend using our Give Me Strength Strengthening Shampoo and Conditioner, because after all, strong, healthy hair is the aesthetic.
Out of the shower, now it is time to prep the hair. Start with I Need A Hero! Wonder Balm Hair Primer to create the perfect base for you to layer your products – much like a makeup primer ahead of your base products. Not only will it perfect the hair strands, but you also benefit from 72 hours of frizz protection – essential for when you are looking to style your hair without heat!
Now you have a flawless foundation, it’s time to build upon adding volume and grip to the hair for a style that sets into place as you sleep. For a long-lasting style and body, we would suggest using a golf-ball size amount of our Session Styling Volumising Mousse. The weightless formula will allow for hair to feel light and lifted, without any sticky or stiffness – heavy products will weigh the hair down, causing the curls to drop out quicker.
With product applied and hair towel-dried, the next step is to get curling.
If you’re after beachy, mermaid waves, braids will be the way to go. Depending on the look you want to achieve, you can alter the technique for the desired outcome – for more defined, tighter waves, opt for lots of tight braids using a small sections of hair. Alternatively, if you’re after a softer style, aim for looser braids using more hair for a less defined result.
For more of a coil or curls, best results would come from wrapping your hair. This can be around a silk rod, or even tights or leggings. The wrapping motion allows for the hair to form ringlets which can be either be combed or brushed through depending on the look you are after.
Alternatively, for a similar curl without using the wrapping method, you could use finger coiling or pin curling where you form the curl using your fingers before securing in place using bobby pins or wrapping hair in a headscarf / popping a bonnet on.
Now that you’ve gone to bed using a heatless curling method, it’s time to style. Simply free the curls from whichever method you used and rake through with either your fingers or comb for a tousled look – or using a brush for a softer style. To bring life into the curls, reduce any frizz and add shine, our Time To Shine Mirror Mirror Shine Serum will be your best friend. The beauty of adding our serum to the mid-lengths and ends of the hair is that it will emphasise the curls and add definition, again without weighing down the hair, so curls stay bouncy and last longer.
