You might think of shampoo and conditioner as simple shower essentials, but they're so much more. They're actually the foundation of all things haircare. High-quality cleaning and conditioning mean that subsequent products, like serums, mousses, and sprays, can work their magic as effectively as possible.

Choosing the best shampoo and conditioner isn't simply a matter of quality, though. It's also about selecting a shampoo or conditioner that works with your unique hair type and needs. The bad news is that shampoo and conditioner can expire. The good news is that it takes a substantial amount of time to do so.

Once opened, Percy & Reed shampoo and conditioner will usually remain healthy and nourishing for 12 months, but be sure to check the PAO (period after opening) on the back of the bottle.

If you’re saving your Percy & Reed shampoo or conditioner, leave it in a cool, dry place. Here, it can last up to three years while still retaining its hair-enhancing properties, though we advise waiting no more than two years for the best results.

Just like the type of shampoo and conditioner you use, how often you wash and condition your hair also depends on hair type.

Fine or oily hair might feel best when shampooed daily, or every other day, while thicker, curly hair might fare better with one weekly wash.

For conditioner, fine or oily-haired people might want to condition their hair every other time they wash it, or just once per week. Experiment with conditioning with every other wash first. If you feel your hair still becomes oily too quickly, you can then switch to weekly.

Meanwhile, those with curly or frizz-prone hair should condition every time they wash their hair.
